about

I wrote this song several years ago, inspired by the resilience of the Filipino people. Having grown up in the United States, I am connected, yet have a longing to know more about my heritage. This song was written in response to those feelings. It is a love letter to a place I've never really known.

Net proceeds from sales of this track will go to the Philippine Red Cross for Typhoon Haiyan Relief.

lyrics

I speak to you in broken tongue
Words I learned very young
Faded over time
Still I know they're mine
Dahil sa iyo magpakailanman, kababayan*
(*English "For you, forever, my countrymen")

And life is sweet here
Sweeter than mango trees
Dancing in the breeze

Looking for the place they call home
A motherland I've never known
But love all the same
Tracing back my name
Remembering where you come from
To see what you've become

Oh, and life is so sweet here
Sweeter than mango trees
Dancing in the breeze

I'm asking God to bless our home
Staying strong by faith, alone
Blood inside our veins
It all runs the same
My countrymen
My family
You're all a part of me

Oh, and life is so sweet here
Sweeter than mango trees
Dancing in the breeze
